The Rides Foundation/RidesFund.org, an affiliate of the East Bay Community Foundation, has been giving horseback riding scholarships to needy East Bay Area youth since 2005. We are on our 16th.
Scholarship criteria are age 7-17, financial need, a short essay, and teacher/principal recommendation. Email or phone for applications. Next deadline will be for summer 2010.
Recipients now train with Bev Vreeland at Basso's Arena (Inderbitzen Training Stables) in Livermore, in both Western and English disciplines, using gentle schooling horses.
Lessons are facilitated and observed by RidesFund Director, Audie Bock, whose Half Arabian pinto, Gladiator Bey, won N. Calif. and Nevada "Top 5" in Western Pleasure. He now lives at Inderbitzen's along with her young black purebred, Dreamfire WR.
We participate in Castro Valley's Rowell Ranch Rodeo Parade every May (we've won 3 trophies) and the Oakland Black Cowboy Parade in October (1 trophy). We have fun!
